He has started from scratch and will be talking about his ups and downs of this industry. Here is what he has to say in his very first post!
I’m here to post about my experience with starting a freebie site and it’s definitely no piece of cake. I want to help all of you out there who are thinking of starting an incentive site and give you a real view into what I will go through to be successful.
I am an 18 year old kid from Pittsburgh. I have a good social life & a baby on the way so that is a bit of a burden on me. My girl is always yelling at me because I am always on the computer
. I used to be a member of some freebie sites such as PrizeRebel, Rewards1, CashLagoon, etc. I did pretty well on those sites, so I started thinking, “Why the hell would they pay people to do this stuff?” Well I realized that they have to be getting paid for users who complete these offers.
I did some research, and found a website called CJ.com. I signed up for the site and noticed affiliate marketing, something I never heard of before; on my sites I only used Pay Per Click (PPC).
Anyway, I started running offers on a few websites that I used to own, I did very well my first month with CJ.com, I made about $500 in commissions from a GoDaddy offer I was running. I ran this offer on an old webmaster website which I since sold.
Then I found Digital Point forums, a place where I could learn about affiliate marketing and being a webmaster in general. That is where I heard of “incentive affiliates” and realized that’s what these freebie sites where running.
After a month or so of planning & debating of whether or not I want to make a freebie site, I came to the conclusion of, “hell yeah! Get rich quick!”
I googled for a few weeks “freebie site script” and came up with total sh*t results. I posted a thread on DP about where I could find a good script for these types of websites, at that time I had two options, use shiftcode, or hire somebody to make a script, which would be expensive.
So some Indian PM’d me trying to sell me a license of FSR (freebe script revolution), and was skeptic because it was probably nulled. Well I went to the site that sold it, and bought a license for it.
At that time, I had the domains, script, and funds for the site but no incentive affiliates. This is where Shaz comes in!
I post a thread in DP about where I could find a good incentive affiliate. He tells me to check out his great site, and which has helped tremendously! If it wasn’t for Shaz, I would have no idea where the hell to go.
I am not a real good web designer or coder, so I tried to customize the site myself, I worked on it for weeks and now I am planning a total site re-design, because right now it is so damn buggy. The code is not clean at all; it looks different in every browser so far.
So I have been working on this site for about two months now & can’t make up my mind. I have so much competition out there, so I have been brainstorming for weeks now what I could do.
I have come up with a few good customizations I could make with the site, which I have verified with the script vendor of FSR who says he can do this for me.
So far, this damn site has cost me a lot of time and money! I am paying people to fix all these different bugs, paying for some flash designs, paying for hosting, customizations, SEO, later I have to pay for advertising, the domains (can’t just get the .com, have to get all of the TLDS, for example, go to prizerebel.net), and a lot more…
There was a point that I got stuck with the site and haven’t worked on it in a week, until I realized I need to get a new design, believe me, it is really frustrating!
So for now, my site is getting a new design as well as some huge customizations to the script, which of course I am paying an arm and a leg for!
You can’t just throw some crappy design up on a website and let it sit there with no traffic. It is kind of over-saturated when you think about it, there are so many freebie sites out there, but the thing is, they are all successful, you just got to put a lot of work into it.
So for all of you who think it would be a piece of cake, it’s not! I am taking a big risk with this investment. This site could turn out to be complete crap for all I know. One thing I do know is that there is money to be made
Hope this helps all of you. Also hope I don’t make myself look like an ass for typing all this and have my site to turn into a disaster, LOL.

My take on it is like this. It shouldn’t be hard with the proper planning. Just keep pushing forward and plan things out thoroughly.
The one thing I usually do is look at it for the con’s and pro’s. If the pro’s out weight the con’s of the feature or plan I’ve drawn up, I’ll give it a shot.
For instance, your on DP, so you know about the BST section. I’d suggest maybe posting up a “Contest” in the “Contest” forum and find someone to make you a design, then pay to have it coded into the script.
Make a long comment short, try oDesk.com – if you haven’t heard of them, you should check them out. Good luck…

Good luck on your venture, it always helps to get a feel of how the industry works, to be ready for the ups and downs that you encounter down the road.

Hang in there it will get better. I know we just changed hosting companies we were having too many issues there so make sure you have a good one.

Well, I really think I f*cked up , lol… I am with hostmonster shared hosting, they offer “unlimited” band width, so far they have been decent but I have barely no traffic to my wesbite.
Actually, for some reason, my site is just sitting there and it is getting a higher rank everyday, I check AWstats and I am getting unique views every day, wierd…

Host Monster actually is said to have some good credibility to them. In any case, it may be far fetched for them to say “Unlimited” but as we all know, there is no such thing as “unlimited.”
But stick with HM though easydolla, I’ve heard nothing but good things about them.

Yeah, so far they have been good, I have a thousand email accounts with them, and I set the quota to each email address like 900 EB , so that really is unlimited, so far so good
But hopefully shit dont slow down when or IF I recieve a lot of traffic

I have been a onlooker here for sometime now. I didnt want to post until I was able to give back just as I have recieved from here. During the hard time

hmm, i see that your site is gone now….was just wondering where you got the startup money, you being 18 y.o. and all – was it mama’s money??….and did you ever have a real job before you started on this venture? it sounds like you thought it was a game or something….not surprised that you are oob already….
